Rules 10th Edition

The Escola Secundária de Camões promotes this school year (2023-2024) the 10th Camões Creative Writing Contest. The overall theme is “A legacy to my friends”.

Article 1

The categories in the competition are Video (declaration, manifesto, monologue, reportage, etc.) and Text (short story, poem, theatre play, essay, fantasy tale, etc.).

Article 2

All students can participate.

Article 3

The entries must be original, unpublished, unaided and written in English. Videos must have enough oral or written text in English to be considered for a creative writing competition.

Article 4

Videos cannot exceed 3 minutes.

Poems cannot exceed 25 verses.

Prose cannot exceed 1500 words.

In the Text category, the title, if there is one, does not count towards these limits.

Entries that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified.

Entries must be somehow related to the overall theme “A Legacy to my friends”.

Entries in the Text category must be 1,5 spaced; font Calibri 11 or Arial 10.

All entries must be submitted by April 12, 2024, at the latest.

Article 6

Entries should be sent to the following email address: camoescwc@gmail.com

In the Subject field, type “Camões Creative Writing Contest 2023-2024”.

In the message body, include the following information:

Name | Class | Class number | Phone number | Category you are competing in

Video

Upload your video to one of your cloud accounts (Google Drive, OneDrive, YouTube) and share the link with us (camoescwc@gmail.com) or post it in the message body. If you use YouTube, we recommend that you make your video unlisted.

Text

Attach your entry (document with your text) to the message.

Article 7

Each participant can enter the competition with up to two entries in each category.

Article 8

The jury will consist of a panel of two teachers of ES Camões and one invited personality.

Article 9

The Jury will evaluate the entries received and award the prizes for each category – first, second and third places.

The winning entries will be published in the CCWC webpage, unless the winners choose not to allow it.

Article 10

The prizes in each category will be the following:

  • 1st prize – 75€ + course at Cambridge School + Books and certificate
  • 2nd prize – 50€ + Books and certificate
  • 3rd prize – 25€ + Books and certificate

The Jury may decide to award honorable mentions to entries that do not win a prize.

Article 11

The awards will be announced and delivered at a school ceremony organized for the purpose on the School Day (May 2024).
